Its not exactly new that they are doing lots of business in africa

Well yeah, but so far all of the business has been oil-related, and not any arms purchases.  Unless you want to do a diorama of say, a Guang Li Metals Co. hot water flask being sold at a shop in Chad or something, I'm just saying that first oil sales, then infrastructure (which is being started up at the moment), but next thing you know, the oil revenues return to these countries and they might be looking to modernize their military (or China might have a place to hawk off their surplus equipment for cheap).

Already in the sixies and seventies African countries purchased weapons from China and  today quite alot of countries operate Chinese weapons:
Zambia K-8 and F-6
Somalia F-6
Tanzania F-6 F-7 F-5
Mali Z-9
Zimbabwe F-5 F-7 K-8
Nigeria F-7 purchased only recently
Sudan F-7 F-6 F-5 A-5
Sudan, the DRC, Zambia, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Guinea Bissau also operate Chinese made tanks and artillery.
