QuoteWe had Richard Nobel give a presentation at our AGM/Forum a couple of years ago. Obstensibly about Team Building/Leadership, really about big boys toys

Great talk. Never realised SC steered like a "shopping trolley"

The drivers comments after beaking the land speed record - "I am not getting in that ****ing hing again"  :P

I bought Richard Noble's book 'Thrust' quite a few years ago, it's a good read.  It's a kind of biography as his quest for the LSR started at young age, although focuses mostly on the Thrust projects & of course Thrust SSC. There's plenty of technical stuff with commentary from Andy Green (Thrust SSC's 'driver') members of the design team & even from Craig Breedlove.  Because of it's rear steering method, Thrust SSC was known by some members as 'the worlds fastest forklift truck"!  They built a test rig from a modified mini to check the concept:

Bizarre eh!  Was it one of us lot that designed it??? :dum:
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

QuoteMind you a similar car powered by two Lightning engines would definitely be neat.

How about a car powered by one Lightning engine?

Thrust 2, driven to the previous World Land Speed Record by Richard Noble, the team leader for Thrust SSC
Seeing this pic of Thrust 2 made me think that it must have inspired the Batmobile from the Keaton film:

Never thought about it before now.

I had a concept I've been kicking around for a while now, I'm just slowly accumulating the kits.  Not that I ever finish anything, and this was more ambitious than most of my plans.

Late 70's Superpower drag race for the LSR.

I'm getting a Mig-21, an F-104, and a Lightning.  They'll all be suitably hacked up to turn them into cars, and then the fun begins with the backstory of the great detente at the salt flats.  ;)
