Xp-n9m Flying Wing Fighter-bomber

This is my whiffy of Jack Northrop's flying wing fighter-bomber.

Upon commencement of flight testing of the small scale flying wing, the handling qualities warranted the operational testing of the small wing as a fighter-bomber.   Sent to participate in fighter-sweeps and ground attack shortly after D-Day, the small wing racked up an impressive set of kills.  Armed with 4x20mm cannon and 8xAP rockets, the little wing performed well until Allied gunners accidentally shot it down, thinking it was a Luftwaffe Wunder-Weapon......

Edit:  BTW, Sword 1/48 scale kit.

Great wiff. Have looked at this kit as a companion to the Dragon Go229 but you beat me to it. Hows it build?

I think it looks great!
But I would think that in a production version, the two-bladed props would have been replaced with more efficient three-bladed props

Well, in a real world thing, the N-9M probably wouldn't even be able to get off the runway with all that ordnance attached.  The thing weighed in at about three tons and was driven into the air with less than six hundred horsepower by its twin engines.

You start adding things like those canons, their ammo, those rockets and then all the other hardware necessary for a military aircraft to operate in a combat environment (armor plate for the pilot, self-sealing fuel tanks, more comprehensive radios, etc.,.) and soon enough you've got some serious weight issues to deal with.

To fix all that you'd essentially have to make an entirely new - and larger - aircraft.  And that would no longer be a N-9M.

So, for Whiffing, this'll do!

Maybe you should display it in a dogfight with an Ho-229A or a Shinden (guaranteed to give those Luft46 types that Viagra effect)  B)
