ANOTHER TIME, ANOTHER WORLD, ANOTHER PLACE......

The Northrop MRF-16

The MRF-16 is the latest incarnation of the famous General Dynamics fighter. Originally dubbed "The electric fighter" by its crews, the F-16 has come a long, long way. This modern, little, nimble aircraft is the epitome of combat airplane experience accumulated in the F-16 design.

Almost a totally new aircraft, the MRF features a new wing design by Northrop, called the "Outboard Control Surface Wing" which has the benefit of an increased area and provides enhanced agility. Also, the outboard section is fitted with a trailing edge flap that can move independently of the inboard section, affording this new Fighting Falcon a maneuverability unseen before.

Weapons load capacity has been increased by the addition of a pair of missile launchers at the edge of the main wing, and a wing-tip missile launcher has been fitted to the outboard section.

The MRF-16 has better range than its predecessors, and a more compact, powerful, economical engine, based on that of the F/A-22 Raptor. The plane is built mostly of composite materials, and has a unique skin type and paint that dramatically reduce the type's RCS (Radar Cross Section).

Complementing these features, the MRF has a new 3-D, stealthy exhaust, based on the LOAN (Low-Observable Asymmetric Nozzle) that increases agility and maneuverability, and cools the exhaust flow for IR protection and also has a reduced RCS for the rear quadrant.

The MRF-16 has all the advances in propulsion, avionics, navigation and sensors used on the F/A-22 and the F/A-35, but at much better price, making it an affordable fighter for all the Allied F-16 operators.

The MRF-16 has given the type a new lease on life, and has been introduced into those units not destined to have the Lockheed stealth fighters.

This is a Kitech F-16A I found last week at a Chinese toy store in my city of Caracas. I bought it for two reasons: the (more or less) $4.00 price tag, and being the only models available in Venezuela. The fit is horribly bad, but a good thing is that it has a pilot in the kit. I can't shake the feeling that this is a repop or chinese copy of a Hasegawa or other party's kit. I almost spent an all-nighter making this little fellow, and although I almost sent it flying through the window, I gathered all my strength to finish it and in the end had a very fun night of modeling.

The inspiration for this build comes from secretprojects.com, where there are wonderful sources of information and reference, and a wonderful 3-view made by member Sundog (AKA Pseudo Sonic)

Enjoy!!!

Wow that's one hot ship Rafa! I really like how you've modified the wing. With that intimidating load-out, this bird looks like it could take on all comers! Awesome work, amigo!

I would be turning the air blue if I hadn't have broken my jaw when it hit the floor after seeing this little beauty. The thing looks positively futuristic!! amazing work Rafa.

Ay Caramba, Pana!!

Muy, muy bien.  Seriously tho, that's some wicked work Rafa.  Those Chinese knockoffs are some of the worst kits around and you've certainly come up with the goods.

Saludos.

I had a good shot of Nevada, and just couldn't resist.

Rafael

Thank you for your comments!!!

I immediately fell in love with this concept when I first saw it, and couldn't resist the temptation to make it.

Greg, that shot of Nevada with the bird in it is.....well, I have no words. Thank you very much for your graphic depiction. Pic stored!!!
