Only briefly looked over the article, but there's one major goof.

Yeah, nah, not really.    That's actually a scale model built by the late Fred Shammas. Some more pics of his Iranian F-16 can be seen here on ARC: LINK!
Fred was truly a master at making his models come to life by clever photography. He had a thread on the ARC Forums for his diorama work. LINK! Lots of dead links, but still worth checking out for the pics that are still there.


That goof aside, I really liked the pic of the early Sidewinder prototype. Those would look really nice under the wings of a late '40s/early '50s whif. Below is one mounted on a Skyraider, but it would probably look the part on a Mustang or Black Widow as well.

I've heard that. 

What scale are/were these kits? I'd assume these are bigger than my typical 1:72 stuff - space (not only for storage) is a vital issue when you take photos, not only for the set but also the surroundings like light or shutters. Great pics, though, excellent work.

I believe Mr. Shammas took all of his pictures outdoors. Best way to do it, in my opinion, trying to simulate natural light indoors is something that even the best in Hollywood have trouble with. He also chose his backgrounds carefully, and the results were stunning. He wasn't just a great modeler, his photographs of them were an art in themselves.

5000-6000K daylight bulbs have made that a bit easier, but the point is still valid.

I think so, too. Nothing beats real sunlight.
