By late 1944, Imperial Japan's Army and Navy were desperate for high-altitude interceptors to combat B-29 Superfortresses. Meanwhile, the Nazi Luftwaffe needed practical experience in fighting the new bomber before it showed up over europe.

In response to this need,  the Reichsluftfahrtministerium authorized smuggling Luftwaffe fighters to Japan for combat evaluation, namely the Bf 109K, Me 410, FW 190A, and FW 190D.

The IJA was impressed enough with the FW 190D that an arrangment was made to license build the Dora as the Nakajima Ki-190II(the Ki-190 and -190I were radial engined FWs).

Although the Ki-190s were seldom used in combat(in fact, the USAAF isnt even sure they were ever encountered), they did provide valuable data in the development of Nakajima's own Ki-84.

To the left, a hobbyboss kit, to the right, Tamiya. I just started the hobbyboss kit tonight, while the tamiya has been languishing in the to-do pile after a disastrous attempt at painting my own roundels.

Any discrepancies in appearance between the two kits is due to the fact that they are two different variants; the less accurate one being re-engineered to suit japanese production

;) I think the hobbyboss kit needs more paint chipping. I just tried out the wet-salt technique and for the most part, I like it.

Yowsa Goober you're on a real hot streak! I like your Ki-190s and the paint chipping adds a realistic look!

Very colorful Doras!

No matter what colors they wear the Fw 190D looks good.

I am looking forward to seeing the finished models.
