Hi there,

well you told me that this would be the right place to post my pictures, so as you can see here I am , so take a look at these pictures.
I always had a soft spot in my heart for these Air Racers and so I decided to design my very own.

Off course it should be as fast as possible, so if 1 engine is good, 2 would be better! Besides of that it should be build in a much more modern way "High tech" so I came up with the idea of a tricycle landing gear instead of a taildragger. The aerodynamic should be the best possible (or what I thought would be better) so no tail almost something of a  fying wing. At last I always loved propellers, so more of them would definitely look better.

Take a look at this and let me know if you like this or not.
If you want to see even more pictures of this beauty (thats what it is for me) feel free to take a look at my own little website: www.usns.biz and look for "Challenger"

You've designed one hell of a plane there Rene, she's a gorgeous looking beast. The wing layout is very familiar, was it inspired by any of Dr. Richard Voights designs by anychance?

Hey lancer

first of all thanks a lot for your kind words about my model. To be honest I have never heard of this Dr. Richard Voight  , would be great if you could give me some informations about this.

Keep on modeling

I wouldn't want to stand behind that with the props spinning. Probably couldn't!

Wow, cool and wicked.

Whatever.

I believe it's Doctor Richard Vogt and he was chief designer for Blohm & Voss during WW II at which time he schemed several tailless combat aircraft that bear some distinct similarities to this aircraft.  See the Blohm & Voss page on teh Luft'46 website for details on the P.208, P.209, P.210, P.212, and P.215.

Hey thanks elmayerle

looks interesting this site, but to be honest even if it might sound totally nuts  :dum:  I'm not so much interested in socalled what if projects that never made it of the drawing board.

The only exception are those aircrafts, ships and vehicles which are totally fictional, I mean something which was "designed" by someone just for the heck of it with absolutely nothing in mind.

Projects like Luft 46 are in my mind something to much speculative, but this is only my personal oppinion!

Are you familiar with the Bill Barnes stories?

BlackOps

Looks pretty cool, also looks like you had to do a whole lotta blending!

The panting has begun.

BlackOps is right: that's some phenomenal blending you must have accomplished there.  Can you share any in-progress pics from during the build?  Or advice?

Wow.

Hi there,

I'm sorry but I have build that thing at least about 12 years ago, and at that time I did not take any in progress photos. All I can say, is that I build the entire wings/fuselage section from balsa wood and the engine nacelles from some plastic cowlings and additional balsa wood too. I glued everything togehter and finally I added several and I really mean several layers of putty until the whole thing started to look the way I wanted it. This progress took several days if not weeks and the whole thing is pretty heavy, so you can imagine how much putty I used. Blending was done with a motor tool which I bought several years ago at a company which makes dental instruments like this right here where I live. that machine is the most helpful tool I got and it´s by the far the best I ever worked with (but also the most expensive one).

If you want any other inoformations feel free to ask,

thanks a lot
