I was chatting to a chap yesterday who worked for DeHavilland in the 50's and 60's and he was telling me that the DH146/HS146 was to be the support aircraft carrying spares back-up for the TSR-2's.

Hi Steve

As in the BAE 146 ? or an earlier incarnation ? The Mil Tac transport design was certainly a 70's design.

BTW If you see him again ask what he knows about the DH-129/HS-129 which was like the HS-681's little Brother and alternative to the Dornier Do-31.

Like the idea of the DH 129/HS 129 as a TSR2 supprt plane, though of course the HS 681 would also have had this role.

If you have access to the British Civil Aircraft on the Drawing Board (forget the title) published a few years back, I recall a nifty five seater VSTOL exec jet from HS that would have had the same role as the Beagle Basset.  This and the HS 129 would certainly look good in 1/72. I'll try and find my copy and give the aircraft name at least.

Hi Geoff
He's a regular so I'll ask him the next time he's in and yes the four engined BAe 146 as it is now because he said it was a DH design to start with, he also said he was at the Isle of Wight at Saro when they were cutting up the SR177 mock-up, seems the Australian's and the German's wanted to buy the program outright but due to political pressure from the US the whole thing was scrapped including the drawings and he was telling me about the SR53 which he saw flying at Boscombe down, plus he mentioned the Hawker Hurricane ground attack plane that was cancelled and we got the Phantom instead.
