Am I the only one who thought the (very expensive when released) Magna Short Sperrin test shot seen on the SIG table at MK was much too box-like and square section in the fuselage?

see excellent page (In French) here: http://prototypes.free.fr/sperrin/sperrin-3.htm

The fuselage looks much rounder in section

u wernt the only one to say that Van. a few people said it looked to boxy. Couldnt tell u if its right shape wise or not, but it looked like a sperrin to me
I always hope for the best.

Hi Martin

have a look at the link I posted-lots of pics of the Sperrin there-strange that Magna didn't seem to look at these pics.

Ah, you've posted pics of the prototype, the in service variant had a squarer fuselage..... ;D

Haven't seen any pics I'm afraid, but I'd love to have the Sperrin & many of Magna's other large kits, but it'll only happen if I win the lottery!  Probably better too boxy than too rounded, should be an easier job to correct if you've got the inclination.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Here is the pic of the Magna Sperrin Martin posted in the gallery section

On balance I still think I'd like to get one of these, and it was great to see this one-whoever made it.

Hard to tell the boxiness from that pic, but I'd say the wing is a touch too low as well!  I'm sure if we put it up to production plans there'll be a few little things wrong, but never mind eh???  I still won't be getting one, but only because I can't afford a second mortgate!

The aircraft shape is too square and boxy to decently represent the prototype Sperrin. I'm also a little concerned about the wing chord as it doesn't look round enough.

Another point which may be purely down to the angle of that photo is the angle of the wing, as I am sure the rear edge was a lot lower than the leading edge, the wing having something like a 10degree angle tilt.

Otherwise it's definitely a fascinating topic and a great build to look at. Just think of the what-if possibilities!

I would guess that teh drawings used for the model are from the Barrie Hygate book, which does show the slab sides on the cross sections.

To be honest when scratch building its very easy to get too focused on a particular shape that its possible not to notice some aspects when cross referencing against photos. Always help to get a second pair of eyes to give it a once over at regular stages as its so easy to miss the obvious  :banghead:

If you take a close look at the light reflection off the fuselage it seems to be a bit too square, but if it's rounded off I think the wing would then look to be just about perfect.
