You'd have to be insane to drive a boat with a big sail like that so close to the rocks ! But I guess millionaires think differently from the rest of us.

The second one is pretty darn cool as well !

Cheers !

Where do you FIND this stuff, Jon? As always, it's fun, exciting and certainly different. Cool.

The sail getting caught in the rocks is the last of their worries. They better have an engine, coz theres no wind behind those rocks!

Do you sail?

Anyhow its a computer rendering.

Did anyone remember seeing on the news a few years ago, a container ship with rigid sails that could pivot to follow the wind, and were also coated with solar panels to power ships systems - extremley cool, and actually worked!

You'd enjoy one of the boats I used to sail on in Hawaii, a 65' Herreshoff built in 1912 as a schooner, converted to a ketch in 1947.

Ahh, what a lovely way to spend a day - out on the open Pacific, lee-rail buried, the trades filling the sails and Diamond Head at our backs receding into the distance.

Sigh.

Must have been fun, the water being warm enough to swim in! (even in summer, im i think its freezing up here!)

You could also do a rotating mast or two like on the Cousteau Society's vessel the Alcyone.

Adding such capabilities may become more prevalent as fuel costs continue to rise. Wind and solar power both would help.

In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.
