Help! I recall a post in which someone reported seeing a USAF HH-3 Jolly Green in a breaker's yard near Dallas, TX.
I cannot find the original post, am planning to visit Dallas soon, and would like to track this beasty down.

TIA,
Tony

I'm planning on being there for the RarePlane Detective road-show on Saturday evening.
This thing with the HH-3 is killing me - I heard about it just before my last trip up, but didn't have the time to go looking for it.
Now I have the time, and I cannot find the post with the friggin' info!!!!  :banghead:

I'm not going to be able to make the show, no quan.  However if you want to have a sit, PM me for #s and such.

Well, I found it, thanks to an ARC member who posted the original message I had in mind. The derelict is up near Alvord, TX, and in pretty sorry shape. I got a bunch of photos from outside the fence, but didn't want to risk hopping the fence while the owner wasn't present.

That reminds me of an HH-3 I saw back in 91 at CFB Edmonton. The pic isn't that good as at the time I had a crappy camera and access to a crappy scanner:

It belonged to the 71st Air Rescue Squadron at Elmendorf AFB in Alaska and was less than a year from retirement when I took this picture.

Great pics, guys ! She's a little beat up, Tony, but still looks the part. I'd love to have seen one fly. And after looking at these pics, i really want to build one !

Who makes a 72nd scale kit of her, anyway ?

Revell USA does a 1/72 one Todd, at least the one I picked up a little while ago is.  It's old though.

If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike

I've seen one in an Airfix box, back when they had pictures of the finished model sitting on a technical drawing for box art. Don't know if it would be the same as the above mentioned Revell kit, but it was also 1/72.

The Airfix kit is an HH-53, not an HH-3 - the 53 is quite a bit larger, though similar in looks.
For HH-3's, your options are Revell (good), Aurora (okay), Lindberg (poor) and Starfix (bloody awful!!)

Where in Alvord is the helo located?

It's NW of Alvord, on 81/287, on the west side of the freeway. I didn't get an exact location, but I would guess it's about 20-25 minutes drive up from Decatur. I spotted it right about the time I was starting to fret that I had missed it, and should turn around.  :banghead: From the freeway you will see a quonset hut, a pair of 2.5 ton trucks, and a big red USAF crash-rescue truck; the helo is tucked in behind the fire engine.
