Help!!
Chaps, I'm building the Shenyang F-8II Finback by Trumpeter in 1/72nd.
I "could" do it real, white, and Chinese, but I've done enough of that for the time being.
So....I'm doing a dirty, all black one.
But which air force??
I'd thought of North Korean, but can't get hold of small enough NK insignia.
Burma?
Anyone else the ricipiant of Chinese equipment?
If all else fails, I could do an ex-Iranian Finback in Saudi colours after the pilot defected.
Any ideas??
Who could receive Chinese Finbacks?

Stunning Geoff.
I've got plenty of small insignia to use on the finback from that selection.
Terrific.....got a back story too.
As soon as I've completed my Su-15 Flagon, I'll be on the case.
Thanks again.

Zimbabwe - rumours of them getting K-8 trainer and F-7 fighters so an F-8 i viable (no idea what they use to trade however !)

Iraqi aircraft that defected to Israel (a bit like how they got hold of their first MiG-21)

I always thought the Finback in the colors used on Pakistan's F-16s would look great.

Radish

A Pakistan Finback would, agreed, look good.
But I've chosen Cambodia, mainly because of the decals I have (Blue Rider).
However....I could always do a Pakistan AF one later.....

And I STILL have my Pakistan AF F-8E(Pak) "Bombtruck" Crusader to complete...1/48th and black and dirty!!

Stick it in Soviet 1960s markings and see how many people think it's a Flagon, they're similar enough.
Do not despair for Johnny head-in-air,

Fetch no shroud for Johnny in-the-cloud,
And keep your tears for him in later years.

Indeed. When I kitbashed one several years ago, I used a Flagon as the basis.

That's amazing.
I was building the PM Su-15 Flagon on Sunday at the Meir Model Show and after I'd bought the Finback, colleagues on the Stafford stand kept going on about their similarity.
Soviet could be an idea.
Meanwhile, my Su-15 after lots of filler and "attention", including a huge underfuselage conformal fuel tank, is ready for spraying.
It'll be black with camouflaged uppers. And Soviet.

Could always let the Chinese have bases in Zimbabwe, expand the Empire

Good thinking, Aircav...Chinese Empire spreading into Africa.
There are already "footholds" and Chinese AF aircraft in "local" markings, eh? :drink:
