Hi all!

If, like me, you're a regular visitor to Modeling Madness, you will have seen my preview of the Airfix 1:72 fighter Mosquito (http://www.modelingmadness.com/reviews/allies/previews/airfix/03019.htm) a coupla days ago.

Well, she's almost done. Yay DH.98s!

Here's a rough idea of what to expect when she's done:

'cetp mine will be in glorious COLOUR! And no rails or tanks....It's a whiff in that I'm putting on spurious codes and serials....and I've done a "magazine article" on the "subject aircraft" too ;). Stay tuned for her debut! Oh, and this whiff will also be submitted to Scott for a MM review too.

She is very, very shiny, possibly due to the fact its CAR ENAMEL in a can. Ah well. Suits me for now, but the 1:48 version of ZK-MOZ will be a tad more matt. Oh, did I say the 1:48 bit out loud? Oops...

Pics as and when.

 K, got some codes on now and anti-glare panel, she's looking lovely! Just need to cobble together the serial and she's good to go! Pics later/tomorrow.

;D She's nicer now, and in the flesh....but I keep accidentally applying thumbprint-shaped roundels to the wings

Ok, here's some pics of the lady in her current form.

I know she's far from perfect, but I wanted a 1:72 Mossie in Kiwi colours as soon as I could make her. So I'm satisfied :). As I say, I still need to cobble together some serials....thinking of putting feelers out for a custom decal job for this and her 1:48 sister...

Very nice Zac

I was just reading about NZ Mossies last night in my new (to me) Modellers Datafile book, I read an astonishing fact that although New Zealand Mosquitos were ex-RAF and ex-RAAF machines, they hardly flew them because the RNZAF had so few correctly trained mechanics etc to look after them.  Most were scrapped after only limited use.
If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike

 >:( Sad but true. The vast majority went straight into storage upon arrival. A couple flew privately before being sold to the US, one was purchased by a farmer - who still has it in TOTALLY ORIGINAL condition and in fact ran her up every so often until recently (witness: NZ2336)- but most ended up being stripped of parts and sold to farmers. Apparently a couple were de-winged, mounted on poles and used to protect orchards from frost!!!

BUT, that sadly being the fate of most, we still have intact (or the substantial remains of) EIGHT of this glorious lady. And two are being actively restored to fly! I love NZ sometimes. That's more than Canada or Australia!

Cool , I got a Corsair the other day that  has decals for New Zealand , as soon as I post pictures of the  Skyrocket as a nightfighter it's getting repainted and  marked with those decals.
