Hi everybody

Maybe some insparation for YOU ! What about a manned version of the "Feuerball" ?
Here the Unicraft Model http://www.geocities.com/unicraftmodels/germ/v7/v7.htm

Many greetings

Mossie

I've got Unicrafts kit of the V-7 Feuerball, although probaly fictional it's a very interesting subject.  If successful, an aerial mine could have played havoc with the RAF's night bombing missions.

The V-7 was supposedly born from the Triebflugel project, one of the more well known of the more-bizzare late war German projects.  A tail sitter, it would have had three rotating wings, powered by tip jets.

Unicraft also does kits of the Flugelrad I & II family.  I'm not sure where fact & fiction seperates with the Flugelrads, but rather than being tip jet powered, the jet efflux was vectored into the vanes to provide VTOL thrust.

There were some postwar projects on tip jet powered helicopters.  One of these is covered in Derek Wood's Project Cancelled, the Hawker Siddley Helicrane.  There where three variants, the HS, HM & HL (Helicrane Small, Medium & Large).  All three variants would have been pure flying cranes, with a crew cabin (or in the case of the of the HS, an exposed pilot) mounted beneath a rotating assembly:

There were proposals to build several modules specifically for the Helicrane, including a mobile hospital:

The HL would have been very capable, with a 100ft (approx 30m) rotor & it would have been able to carry a maximum load of 118,000lb (53.5 metric tonnes).  Very impressive.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Maybe with a gunner and maybe a pair of 20mm or 30mm cannon who would hover there and blast away at the incoming bombers - kind of like a airborne flak emplacement I suppose.

All hail the God of Frustration!!!
