This is truly magnificent.  I know you said it wasn't especially difficult but just having the guts to tackle this (and finish it) in the first place is impressive.

It's also a good reminder to the rest of us that you can craft virtually any shape you set your mind to.

Have you considered wrapping a thin sheet of plasticard around the balsa?

MAD

It would make a great ASW/MP aircraft, with MAD tail sting added, surface-search radar, sonar buoy launchers, and of cause a massive weapons bay!

Blimey, missed this thread somehow!  Damn fine work Lee.  I often wondered about an Atlantic, but I never knew how to go about the fuse.  Maybe I'll do one sometime, but in airline colours.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

QuoteA 72nd B36 Peacemaker may make a reasonable basis for some of the fuselage
This is the way I'm going as it has the length, and I got a rejected vac 737 fuselage from Combat Models for the nose (see my post further back and you can see a certain amount of Boeing in it).  Just have to fabricate the tail cone.

QuoteYou could try realigning the back end
That's a good idea, seeing as the tail end will be coming off anyway it's worth a try to see how it looks.

I got asked on Secret Projects to take some pictures of the large Atlantic display model in the Woodford heritage centre, so I might as well post them here too. Taking photos proved a bit problematic as they'd moved the room around to do some maintainance and the Atlantic model was buried right at the back. Hope these are okay:

Rather than post them all up, you can see the detail ones on my photobucket album:

Before somebody asks, I didn't photograph the underside because it's absolutely featureless: no indication of the gear layout!

Many thanks to the heitage centre guys for going out of their way to help me.

For the gear placement, I simply went with the location in the wing of the standard Vulcan and for the nosegear I managed to get it from a side view Thorvic sent me.

The V1000 is even trickier...

That's the best guess of the Heritage Centre too. They have got a brochure for the Atlantic, but apparently it's "sales" not "technical" so not much help. You could make the same argument about the model actually: lovingly detailed cocktail bar but no cockpit detail........

Now you have these pictures, I do hope you're going to scratchbuild the cocktail bar in the V1000.......

How did I miss this!!!!!

I have tried to work with balsa in the past with little success. Maybe I just wasn't patient enough.

This is a really nice build and it's nicely finished off. Especially considering the mediums you chose to construct it from. A credit to your patience.
