Chaps,

One of the displays I'm contributing to at Telford in November has a theme of Northern Africa.
Obviously, not only the area but modelling potential is vast, and from "stock"....ie already built, are a 1/48th MiG-17PF Egyptian AF, and a T-34/85 Egyptian Army. To these I shall add a M4A1 Sherman (Uganda)....they had both VVSS and HVSS suspension systems, with the original 76mm gun fitting. Tanks are far easier and quicker to build (especially 1/35th ones) than aircraft, so I'll probably add a Moroccan T-72 and an Eritean T-55.

BUT....I was INEVITABLY thinking about a WHAT IF? selection from Northern Africa......but not TOO far from the truth, just vague possibilities that might create some confusion.
A selection of 10 models could be:

Royal Egyptian AF Spitfire XVI or XVIII....they had the Mk.V, IX and afterwards Mk.22s, so a XVI could confuse.
Egyptian AF MiG-29
Biafran AF A-1 Skyraider
Moroccan AF A-26K Invader
Sudanese Hunter FGA.79
Ugandan Army M3A3E8 76mm Sherman.....or why not an M51 Isherman?
Morocco M.41 Walker Bulldog
Egyptian Army Sherman Firefly
Nigerian Army T-34/85
Libyan Army Chinese Type-69-II

For a really WILD "10 North African models".....

Royal Egyptian AF Sopwith Camel
Egyptian AF F-20
Libyan AF SE5E-sesquiplane
Moroccan AF F-104S
Nigerian Air Force F-4D Phantom
Egyptian Army Merkeva
Nigerian Army M.60 Patton
Moroccan M.51 Isherman
Ethiopian Army M.48A3 Patton
Somalia M-41 Walker Bulldog

Lots of "unigue" upgunning, etc..

Any others? :drink:

You've left off Mali, Mauritania and Niger.

Mali has an interesting history.

Rad I'm intrigued by your definition of Northern Africa ? Slightly different to mine -  Nigeria ,Uganda and Somalia ? Now according to the UN Geo Code system they are West & East Africa but then again I suppose the Peoples Rep of Staffs/Derby never did accept the system and stayed with the tried and tested "if it fits, it's in"  ;D

Could be fascinating though - Egyptian Crusader (the tank) in the 1948 war ?
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I understand that Biafra were offered Meteor night fighters...but the deal fell through.

Katangan F-84's or F-104, Hunter or Alpha Jet, passed to them from Belgium?
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Don't forget Gekko's He162 profiles Terry - lots of African ones in there IIRC, plus some Italian ones
