Just thought that a RR Dart Whirlwind would look cool

How about grafting the engines, or mabe the entire wing, from the Airfix Pucara onto the Whirlwind fuselage? Twin Aztazou Whirlwind.......

then imagine the results if you put four M-61 Vulcan guns in the nose of this machine!!!  :o
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

An alternative would be to go for the Hornet much earlier - 1938 De Havilland proposed the Mosquito, and were regretably told it was not to go forward. If, on the other hand, the Air Ministry had been persuaded by the need to conserve war materials, thus the wooden Mosquito becomes a fast favourite, especially after Churchill is shown a demonstration of the capabilities (meaning that once he takes over as PM, he carries it forward as a high priority. As a result, De Havilland are persuaded to develop the different versions of Mosquito, and having contracted out some work to Westland, bring Petter onboard, and he takes the Mosquito design principles, and creates the Hornet, built around a pair of Merlins.

Hence:

- Mosquito bomber variant goes forward immediately, first flight in late '39, and put into emergency production
- Mosquito night fighter variant follows in '40, and rapidly produced to meet the Luftwaffe night bombing threat
- Mosquito intruder variant arrives in '41, and makes its combat debut in Africa, attacking Romel's forces
- Hornet goes into production in '42 in both land and carrier based versions

I've always liked the Whirlwind-built the Airfix kit many years ago, but have not plunked down for the Pavla kit.
There is a new reference book on it out-saw it at MODELING MADNESS this morning.

The Whirlwind looked at lot like the later Welkin, but the two planes were substanstially different in detail.
The Welkin's wing was a bit thick, and taught the RAF a few early lessons in compressability, if I remember rightly.
