Question about the Avia

Between the pilot's feet on a standard Bf-109 there is a big blocky thing. Is that the back of the cannon that fires thru the hub? (That's what I was told once) If so, the Avia has a different engine and doesn't seem to have the hub mounted cannon. I scored a Hobbycraft kit and it has the block between the feet. Is that supposed to be there?

Yes I believe your talking about the cannon breach block cover - my guess is that the kit you've gotten is modified from a standard 109 kit and thus not entirely accurate (I could be wrong though and welcome other , more learned opinions).

The Hobbycraft 109 series kits share common parts, eliminate the cannon breech for the Mezek.

The Czechs did build the S-99 which was either a 109G or K, I don't remember which, before changing to the S-199 so it's possible the cover would still be there.

I've always suspected they got built with the bits available on the day, and whatever could be sourced locally.
