Question for the resin casting gurus...

I'm thinking of using this week's 40% off Hobby Lobby coupon to get an Alumite Starter Set.  I'm wanting to make a Harrier GR.3 and was looking over my Airfix kit thinking about how the overall kit is not as good as the Monogram AV-8A/GR.1 kit.  So I started thinking maybe I could get a starter set and make a copy of the GR.3 nose for the Monogram kit.  I'd also like to make a few copies of the Strike Eagle drop tank nose that I used as a RoG Hunter radome.

Anyway, over on arcair they dont seem to have a very high opinion of the Alumite resin, saying it sets too quickly and has a lot of air bubbles.  Does anyone here have any experience with their stuff or any other pointers for someone looking at taking the plunge?

Thanks!
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Alumilite has a How To Page that will show you how to create your mold and pour your resin.  If you are careful and follow the instructions you should have no problems with your task.  The watchword is to work with small amounts at first to get a feel for what you are doing.  As your experience level increases along with your confidence level you should be able to step up to larger molding projects.  The weather and temprature have a lot to do with how the resin reacts and humidity will play havoc with your resin as well as moisture so keep your work in a dry and hopefully a temprature controlled environment with good ventilation and above all, remember that this stuff has a shelf life so if you don't use it before the expiration date comes and goes, you could end up with some bad results.

I've been looking at their site and the tutorials.  It looked like for the simple starter projects I had in mind it should work pretty well.  It's not like I'm trying to cast a TSR.2.  I think I may pick one of these sets up this week.  I'll keep you posted on the progress.

I've been casting for about 10 years now and Wook and Jeffry have pretty much said it all.  I too use Alumilite and have had good results.
