I think you have captured it very well but I do have a comment, nothing critical mind you just technical. I would suggest that the M.52 should hang down a bit further because the underside of the roof of the bomb bay is usually at the same point as the cut out line you show. This bomb bay roof was the major structure of the whole design and I don't think it would have been cut into except where the M.52 tail pokes through. You would have to make an allowance for the shackle too. By dropping it down it can then move forward closer to the Lincolns cg. I wouldn't change this marvelous drawing though, do another and see how it looks.

Hmm, I based the position of the M52 on the diagram from Secret Projects linked earlier in this thread.

I've superimposed the relevant section of the diagram over the image - note the reference for the M52 I used had the short jet-pipe.

Unless there is a significant difference in the height of the bomb bay in a Lincoln, the positioning should be OK?

That's interesting RP1, I only made my comments as I'm messing around with a couple of Lancasters right now working out how my next project will go. The bomb bay roof seems to be quite a bit lower, maybe they were thinking about removing it to fit the M.52 in.

Did you extend the forward fuselage on your Lincoln profile then?

I suspect that quite a bit of modification would have been made to fit the lowering mechanism in.

I scanned the profile from Mondey's "British Aircraft of World War II", scaled it to the given dimensions and then drew directly over it. It says that it is a B II, and certainly seems to look like the photographs - although the exact profile of the aft fuselage seems to vary between drawings. Certainly it wasn't the Mk 31 with the loooong nose. Ultimately this is like a visual game of Chinese Whispers - each illustrator distorts the image a little bit, then it is further distorted at each stage of reproduction...
