For those who don't visit the GB threads, this is an entry in the Styrene Junkyard GB. The Kondratyev fighter was a real 1953 Soviet project that never left the drawing board (in fact, for all that I've been able to find out about it, it may never have left the back of an envelope!).

The kit is 1/72. The fuselage and nose wheel are from an Airfix Lightning, the wings, main undercarriage and missile pylons are from a Leoman Su-9, the tailplanes once belonged to a Revell MiG-29 and the fins and various auxiliary intakes were donated by a Hobbycraft Su-17. Also, the stepped rear fuselage and the upper and lower fuselage where the Lightning used to have a spine and belly tank use substantial amounts of plastic card.

The full build to date is at www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,19437.0.html

Now that does look good, certainly different from the traditional designs but really has the feel for the period.

Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh come SMW.

How does she sit? It looks to me like w/o some added stuffin she would be sittin nose high. . . Looks fantastic I wish I could pull something like that off!

Thanks. I thought about reducing the height of the nose gear but, when the main wheels are added, it sits flat and the nose-high attitude disappears.

However I've just noticed that, even though the parts are from the same kit, the main wheels are way too thick for the wing they're supposed to retract into  :banghead:

Oh well, if anyone notices I'll claim that they use an ingenious Soviet device that deflates the tyres on retraction  ;D

Looks great, I love the double tail. And regarding the wheels, nobody will notice a little detail like that. They'll be busy admiring the whole thing.

Finally finished after a gap of two months caused by real life intruding into my modelling time  ;D

See the Styrene Junkyard GB for more pics and build info.

I like that a lot

Some of the Soviet projects are truely "Gerry Andersonesque" - maybe Mr Anderson was the "Fifth Man" ?  Any lwayers looking in "It's a JOKE !"

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Well done McGreig!

I was also going to say 'Gerry Anderson-like' but didn't realise that it was a drawing board design. The build looks challenging but you've done it ever so well.

Looks great, I just love odd Soviet aircrafts

Excellent!  And really not that implausible.  However, it would've looked even better in NMF.
