Excuse me, but there's a fellow named Delmar Benjamin who wants to have a word with you.  ;D

Delmar did bust that myth! I got pictures and video proving it over and over again. I guess the author didn't follow through on his research.

Its not the workbench that makes the model, it is the modeler at the workbench.

Del figured out how to fly the Gee Bee, however he was under no illusions as to it being 'easy'.
One thing he found was that 'three-point' landings were a no-no, you had to fly her in with the tail up
and touchdown on the mains only and then let the tail drop.

I saw (and touched) the aircraft at the Arlington WA. Fly-In in 2000, very cool.

Personally, I think that would also have been appropriate!  Now, where is my dvd of "The Rocketeer" ?

There I was thinking the prize was going to be an awful lot of bread.   ;D
So I got that going for me...which is nice....
