Here's my 1/72 Finnish A-10E (an export version of a navalised A-10).  It needs some weapons and then it'll be complete.  I figure Finland would have small carriers for use in the Baltic just in case their land bases were overrun either by the Soviets or the Swedish for some reason.

Don't naval planes have to be able to fly faster than the carrier?

I invite all and any criticism, except about Eric The Dog, it's not his fault he's stupid

Very nice, but you know Finland are restricted by the peace treaty they signed with the Soviets after WW2 to just 60 combat aircraft?

When I said sign, I meant forced to sign.  They also gave up some key strategic land IIRC, including a major port city. Guess thats what happens when you side with one brutal dictatorship against another and lose  :(

Nice idea.
I think I prefer the original Finnish colours of Dark Green and Black with light blue undersides. Why not a full "retro" look and give it yellow identification markings for the Eastern Front and WW2 insignia for an Arado 359?

Yeah, I know, but this whole alternate history thing leaves lots and lots of loopholes   :D  Everyone's navies and air forces are two to four times as large (while their land armies either the same size or smaller) in my happy little world.

Honestly, I had no idea what this was going to be when I started painting it.  I had Swedish and Soviet planes ready to do battle on the Baltic, why not throw in a couple of Finnish ones?

Why not have the 3 Scandanavian countries join together to form an alliance against the Soviets? Perhaps bring in Iceland as well. The Finns can tell the Sov's where to stuff thier treaty and build their forces to a point that they want.
BTW, when the Soviets invaded Finland in 1939, it cost the Red Army a great deal as the Finns fought them to a standstill and were actually beginning to beat them.

Its just a couple of years ago I had a whole AH worked out in my head based around Finland starting WW3 when they order Harriers in the early 80s.  Russia don't like it, it escalates, etc etc.  Anyway, I did a lot of research of Finnish/Russian relations as part of it, and its pretty obvious Russia bullied the hell out of Finland throughout the cold war with the threat of attack as their big stick - remember Finland wasn't in NATO.

Actually, Sweden has recently proposed that the Swedish, Danish and Norwegian Air Forces should merge into one. Of course, its easy to see why the Swedes were so keen on getting this deal into the world, seeing as the SAAB Gripen would have become the standard fighter, and a lot of new built Gripens would be needed to replace the Danish and Norwegian F-16 fleets...

Nice build.  Love to see any version of the warthog.  Make sure to hang a lot of things that go "boom" on it.

HOLY CRAP!!!  I totally forgot about this one!  It actually ended up as my Netherlands EA-10H thingy (never looked right to me in the blues and Finnish roundels).

Thanks for stirring my memory!
