How about an aircraft carrier/airport?



Also why limit it to starting in 1917?
The first military use of an aerial vehicle off of a vessel was in the US Civil War.

Now imagine if the C-130 actually became a standard COD plane.

Now imagine one in with gull gray/white and markings taken off of a grayhound or viking.

....now imagine that with folded wings!

Imagine if the DC-9 became a COD plane (as has been mentioned elsewhere on this site).

If only I could find a kit.

I would love to see the ship they would need for a 747! Hey, British airways could have a floating terminal 5 next to it,along with a couple of container ships to handle all the lost baggage!

The Duchy of Rockall - too small for a runway, too rough for Harriers.

The rock itself is too small to support a flying platform. but there's no reason you couldn't build something around it.  A de-milled, permanently-moored escort carrier would supply the flying-off space.  The control tower could double as a lighthouse.
