Nev,

  Nice find on the new scheme.  Saw your post on ARC also, along with the JDAM pics on the F-2.  There was an interview (in Av Week)
with either the head of JASDF or head of JASDF TDRI and he talked about weps upgrade plans for the F-2 specifically.  JDAM was first on the list and testing was supposed to start in 08.  I wanna say the test program was supposed to run for 2 years and I think there was also mention of trying to send some F-2s to a Red Flag, but I need to go find that article again to be sure.
