I've used Windsor and Newton acrylic Matt varnish a few times now and it's very, very Matt from the jar, but requires careful application with a "hairy stick" as IHG calls my method of paint/varnish application to avoid brush marks. Whilst in WH Smiths yesterday noticed they do a spray can of the stuff. Bought one to see how well it works. Will report back.

Chris - whose been having some problems with Matt finishes lately !

Hi,
I seem to recall you live in Nottingham. Winsor and Newton varnish is easy to get in Nottingham-art shops and The Range in Lady Bay (near Hobbycraft) have it.

It was £3-50 in Smiths for a smallish can, so could work out pricy. Hopefully I'll be testing it in the next 10 days or so.

Which reminds me - that bottle of Vallejo Acrylic Thinner I bought at Telford, having read it can be used neat as a matt varnish.

I brushed some on a random model I had lying around as a test and it left a bit of a whitish hue - will have to try airbrushing it in thin coats.
