My first whif for ages-
I am sort of retro engineering a jet Fury from an Airfix Seahawk and a PM Sea Fury. This is inspired by actual developments by Hawker but due to my lack of scratch building skills I am kit bashing to produce my interpretation!
Pics to follow....

Thanks for the kind offer and advice Lee. I'd like to do an accurate version as you suggest , however this is just a kitbash to produce a model of  aircraft that the uninformed might think was a real Hawker product....

cheers

QuoteMight be better off using a Heller or Revell* Tempest wing as the PM wing does need a lot of thinning down plus the ailerons don't match on one wing top to lower surface!

Bearing in mind that Hawkers used a Tempest wing minus the centre section between the u/c bays, you'd have no problems with shape.  I'd also advise using a Frog/Novo Sea Hawk as the plastic is nice and thick, albeit rivetty.  Oh, and you'll have to remove the bullet fairing on the tailfin too.

*The kit is awful as a Tempest and best used for this sort of thing.  Don't know if it's any thinner of thicker than the PM Sea Fury.  I might have some airframe wreckage from several kits if you need to play around.

re the dark blue model shown, its not a wind tunnel model (the caption is wrong!) this one is a 1/72 wooden model i put together a few years ago for Tony Buttler as a discussion piece, i guess someone took a photo of the model at a show and assumed it was an original?

i based my model on an early P.1040? (P.1035?) design artwork drawing published in ref. 'Sydney Camm and the Hurricane' which shows a 'Tempest winged' 'Hawk' with teardrop canopy like the prototype P.1040, the drawing is not the best quality but seems to be the earlist surviving incarnation of the type?

cheers, Joe
