Crikey! As a kid i watched it for the cool equipment. Now i'm a lot older, i'll have to watch it for a different sort of equipment!!

I'm not certain, but didn't Imai or Doyusha issue a 1:72 Angel Interceptor based upon the Airfix kit but 'better' ?

What was that Arnie movie with the heli-jets..... he was a pilot that had his identity stolen or something like that. I walways thought they were quite believable, as was AIRWOLF..... apart from the ground clearence of the chin gun - in one shot it actually bumps on the ground !

A mid-fifies SF movie - may have been 'This Island Earth' - had the crew of the spaceship and human passengers in 'stasis' so they could survive the long interstellar journeys.

Imai - they made all sorts of Captain Scarlett stuff, quite a lot of which can be found ebay.

Two possibles: in The Running Man he was a military pilot framed for a massacre involving gunships. In The 6th Day he was a helicopter tour pilot who gets his life taken over by a clone.

Do you mean Blue Thunder? Airwolf didn't have a chin gun (just telescopic gun barrels and missile tubes the size of large hotdogs that allegedly contained Bullpups and Sidewinders.... )

Yep - correct. The bit where they're trapped in the stasis tubes and a monster's running around in the spaceship gave me nightmares as a kid.....

Yep, it was Sitxh Day, & the helijet was called a Whispercraft.  The basis was that it was an ex-military jet &, Arnie & mate had flown them & managed to pull a few strings to get hold of some for a post-war tour business.  Believable near-future design, similar in concept to some of the heli-plane projects of the 80's.  Ron Cobb got in on it's desgin so it was going to be good.  Fantastic Plastic released it but it's been retired:

I think Weavers right about the helicopter your thinking of being Blue Thunder Ian.  Blue Thunder was a Gazelle with the front end heavily modified & roughly resembled a Cobra, looked the part.  Airwolf had hidden weapons, (as Weaver mentioned) able to carry huge amounts of weaponary a helicopter never would, had stealth capabilities & could do mach 2, all this in a lightly modified Bell 222 shell!  The opposite of realistic, but as an eight year old (oh, who's kidding, still as a thirty-odd year old!) uber cool!!!

This is one of my favourite aircraft from UFO. The Shadair SST.
If they made a 1/72nd scale kit of this, well how many military variants of this could you make??
