MBB-Boeing-Vertol Salamander II - Sunday morning build

Rafael

This is my sunday-morning speed build.

It's supposed to be a fast VTOL aircraft, based on the aerodynamics of the ancient WWII Salamander Jet. This one is equipped with a small, compact, and very efficient turbine that moves an advanced rotor system. The anti-torque effect is achieved by reaction, through the use of hot gases bled from the engine.

This aircraft was meant to be fast, maneuverable and able to carry a heavy load of hard-hitting ordnance.

It was also equipped with state-of-the-art electronics and avionics for the one-man crew.

The Salamander II was used for a variety of duties ranging from scouting, battlefield air support, patrol, armed reconaissance, escort and attack.

The sample depicted here is armed with the JDRADM (Joint Dual Role Air Defense Missile) a light-weight, tube-launched, hypersonic missile, with a multi-purpose warhead, able to defeat aircraft, heavy armor and radars. Rocket pods for 70mm HVARs and SAAB Thorhammer missiles for light-weight, soft-skinned targets. It also carries a nose-mounted BK-27G revolver cannon, firing advanced ammunition in devastating bursts.

All in all, a very fun build. I hope you like it.

BEHIND THE SCENES:

To make a Salamander II on a Sunday morning, mix the following ingredients:

An idle 1/72 Salamander, properly fitted with a cardboard (Yum!!!) bubbletop canopy. Take all aerodynamic surfaces off.

Mold putty to make a glove mold

Polyester Resin, the one used for auto and hull repair. Note the zigzag openings on the belly of the glove mold for easier extraction of the subject

Now you're almost ready. Use stub wings from a HAP/HAC Tigre and the rotor/mast system from an unsuspecting Kiowa. Arm to your taste.

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

I like that so much I do believe I will steal it    I have put off buying a Salamander for lack of ideas. Now I got one   ;D

Thanks, my friends!!!!

As you see, I still have some "workbench queens" in the background, so this one should have to be a speedbuild!!
