Hey Guys, think the VW would work as a 'field ambulance' at some Summer Camps & Resorts? just something i was wondering about. btw, the green VW shown on pg.1 looks almost like a Samba Bus i saw on 'Pimp My Ride' when it was turned into a Surf Van! Dan

VW vans have been used as ambulances, but the Type 1 is less suitable than modern vans: the engine in the back creates a high floor, you want a low floor for easy loading of a stretcher, and good access alongside the stretcher.

Actually, what that limited was capacity.  Most military ambulances are designed to carry a large number of patients.  The Kombi van allowed only the carriage of two stretchers.  Access to the patients was quite adequate though, as the main load carrying area of the van could be accessed by the side doors and that was where the stretchers would have been.  Running the stretcher over the top of the engine compartment wouldn't have been difficult.
