Hey gents,

What's the purpose of those tiny little canards on the B-1B?

(and conversely, exactly what is the purpose of a rubber duck?)

Okey dokey, the B-1's small canards are part of an active vibration damping system for high speed low level flight, and the rubber duckie is merely there for intellectual bathtime conversations!!

DJ has it right, since the crew is located far forward of the Bone's CG the ride can get bumpy so the canards were added to help dampen the vibrations & any unwanted pitching movement of the nose.
