I received an email a few days ago from someone indicating that an article in the current issue (winter '08) of The Hook bears a more than striking resemblance to an article I wrote for the April 2004 issue of Internet Modeler. The story is about the Lockheed XF5V-1, a naval version of the F-104. The article I wrote was, of course, complete fiction about how the Navy modified 2 F-104E's (which never existed, either) into a navalized version. I find The Hook article appears to have taken enough of my story as fact, which I find ROFLMAO funny.

Here's The Hook article:

Here's the link to my original story. Bonus points if you can figure out how I was dropping subtle hints throughout the story:

I've heard people say if it's on the internet, it must be true. It will be fun to see where this goes

Happened to Alvis Petrie a few years ago, he made a model of a 'Fortcaster' using a B-17 fuselage with Lancaster wings, engines, and empennage. Fooled Aero Vintage books for a while:

You'll see that they fell for it (provisionally) in the April issue of their newsletter, and fully twigged in the June issue, where they managed to misspell his name.
