Thorvic mentioned this & I'd already had a brainwave about it, it looks fairly simple to make a 1/48 kit into a 1/72 Tu-22 equivalent and Vulcan replacement.

I think the key to this is to keep the 'look' of a larger aircraft developed as a scaled-up TSR 2, but no so as it looks like a 1/48 TSR 2. So...

4 crew, 2 side by side at the front, 2 more behind them.
new undercarriage (no short field requirement, so maybe a multiple bogie-type arrangement?)
maybe change the wing tips so they're no longer bent down? just to give it a slightly different, yet similar appearance
might change the intakes to square, Jaguar/Tornado style ones

ideas?  ;D

sounds a neat idea, definately one id love to see explored further in model form, as a possibility, intakes from a Backfire B would look very similar to those on some of the pre.TSR.2 studies

Hi Joe,

Do you think the Russians developed those intakes themselves or was it copied from F-4 Phantom intakes after they were studied from downed F-4's in Vietnam.

Out of interest, I have a partial set of 1/48 seamless F-4 intakes I'm not likely to use, all I've used from the set is the interior ducting and fan fronts.
If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike

RSP - Fighters states that the MiG-23's intakes were influenced by F-4 technology, so it seems reasonably that the Tu-22M's would be too. Chances of getting old man Tupolev to admit to it though........

Oops - that was wrong, but in a good way. It's actually RSP - Bombers that mentions intakes being derived from a study of the F-4's, and it's the Tu-22M's it's talking about....

Price of posting from work without books in front of me....... :banghead:
