Russian Navy Colours

Re the "classic" Russian/Soviet navy colours, i.e. dark grey hull and brown deck, can anyone tell me what the actual colour shades are?

So you have a choice of Northern Fleet or Baltic Fleet Grey !!!!

The images normally seen of the Soviet Fleet's grays, I've got a close approximation in my favourites, Vallejo Acrylics, with 905 - Bluegrey Pale.  For note, there are a few differing shades of gray in the Russian and Soviet fleets - standardly, the pale gray is used, sometimes it's a less blued shade, and sometimes there's an overall Dark gray colour - there's shots of Chabanenko beside a Ticon wearing this dark gray overall.  Additionally, there are images where the dark gray is used only on turrets and dishes - there's a shot on Wikipedia of a Sovremmeny, with overall pale bluegray, but the AK-130 turrets are dark.

Additionally to note, the Deck Brown has an orange tint, and there are variations only on the Main Deck.  The Main/Weather Deck can be either Dark green, or almost Blackgrey at times.  All Other Decks are Deck Brown - the only difference to this is Flight Decks, which can be Dark Green, as seen on Kiev, or Blackgrey, as in images of the Kuznetsov.

There have been extensive discussions of this over at the forum associated for www.modelwarships.com - some members, like Kidcurrie42, can share extensive ammounts of information - John's been building an extensive Soviet fleet project.

Cheers all - those White Ensign paints look like a good bet: probably go for Northern Fleet since their more likely to use something as sea-worthy as a lifeboat-like design.

Now another question: does that deck brown continue inside the ship?

I don't recall for certain, but I believe so - you can see videos that involve the inside or Russian ships, so you can see there.

I'd actually think the Baltic fleet more likely to use your lifeboat, or the Black sea Fleet - the smaller nature of your ship would suggest to give it to one of the two smaller fleets in the Navy.  But the FSB operates its own small fleet, involving Krivak III's for patrol and interception ships.  These would likely be in the two major sea areas - the North and Pacific regions - so the Black Sea and Baltic are your better bets.  Remember, Border Guards are jurisdiction of the FSB.

I only meant Northern Fleet in terms of the grey shade, not the ownership of the vessel. As you say, it'll be KGB Border Guard (Soviet Era), but they still use the grey + brown scheme on their Zhuks, which are tiny patrol ships similar in size to the lifeboat.
