Best and worst

I like the building phase; PSR can be a bit of a chore, but I don't really mind it. Masking canopies can be a bit fiddly, but I also don't mind doing that either.
I HATE masking cammo schemes, I don't particularly like the painting part as it always looks amateurish to me and never looks right. I also HATE decalling as well

I'm the exact opposite!...I lurve the painting bits...but don't particularly enjoy the sticking it all together stuff...see, we're all different here...

We should have a 'My Fave Bit' GB, someone designs the model, someone else glues it togther, yet another putties and sands it smooth, the fourth one paints it, and finally I get to put the decals on.

It'd cost a fortune in postage and emails to make sure we're all on the same track, but then we'd all only do the bits we like.

[NOT a serious suggestion guys.........!]

Luv - The research, and EVERY aspect of the project, except......

Hate - Masking tiny ickle windows/canopy frames..... Zero's, Val's, Kate's, Hurricane's etc.... and screwing-up a really good project by rushing the last couple of things just to get it finished for a self-imposed deadline..... and damaging a model whilst transporting it to a show

Right where do I start??
The main things I hate are individual tank tracks, and putting decals on

I get narked when I get part way through a paint job that is looking good so far, then my airbrush decides to either pack up or slaver the paint all over the model and make a right pigs ear of it.
CANOPIES!!! I won't even go there,
What I do like is when a plan goes together well, and all the parts of the kit/whiff go together better than I thought they would.
This always gives me inspiration to keep at the project, and not throw it in the bone yard.
I enjoy airbrushing very much, just not too keen on doing larger areas by hand, or camo schemes by hand.
I enjoy the build as long as the parts go together ok with out having to seriously attack the thing with the entire contents of my tool box

Don't forget to coat the painted part of the sheet with Clear or Micro Scale "Liquid Decal Film" Simon otherwise the sheet will break up when you soak it.

Masking canopies,rubbing down, building, masking for spraying, painting cockpits and seats,brass etched,resin,filling,decaling,but not in that order.

I guess I get my greatest thrill in conceptualizing a model and finding the bits that will make it reality. I **USED** to know the shape of nearly EVERY kit in my 2,000+ collection, but I have only a few dozen to work with now. I use my dial caliper A LOT, to research size and shapes to minimize trial-and-error cutting. The joy of "imagineering" some feature that WORKS as it should. Trying new paint schemes, fastidiously mixing paint to the color I envision. Or finding something in a non-hobby store that LEAPS out at you with possibilities for a project. Creating a believable and entertaining backstory.

The worst is when something gets out of sequence and you either have to tear something apart or stew over your mistake and just hope nobody else notices. The perversity of inanimate objects that will seek out inaccessible places to fall into, or simply DISAPPEAR at a critical time. Then there is the realization that after some 45 years of meticulous acquisition, my **HUGE** collection was actually a burden, and is/was nearly worthless on the open market.

Dislike: The realization that the project is finished. One time a Tamiya Corsair got converted into a British variant, was started on a Friday night and was shown the following Tuesday completed. The quickness of the build was disappointing. With the emergence of die cut canopy masks, that fear there is essentially gone. And it was only a fear, not a loathing.

Love: design, prep, putty, and especially painting/weathering. I purposely shoot my paint a bit more slowly than I could just to extend the enjoyment times. Puttying has become fun because of Magic Sculpt which is easy to work with and a surgical steel wax sculpting tool known as a Ward's Carver.

Hate: The lifestyle we've had to live: 1st a medical ban due to the chemicals in the glues which lasted from 2001 until 2008, then the economic crash making me work 200 miles from home. But there's a fix: We're going to introduce 'Project Night.' No phones, no internet, no DVD's. The family will gather and do hands on projects one evening a week for the evening....likely Friday or Saturday night.
