A little What-if...What If New Zealand and Australia had been invaded?

Thought I'd post a couple pictures of my latest build, a What-If F4U-1D, in Commonwealth green/gray camo, but with VMF-441 markings, flying from Vladivostok in support of Operation Ares (the Allied invasion of Far East Russia), which is part of the WWII Alternative Time Line I posted on the AH page.

Ooops!  Forgot to mention that this Corsair was being shipped to New Zealand by freighter when it was overrun by Japan, and was subsequently diverted to the USMC, who flew them up until the decision was handed down to initiate Operation Ares.

The model is the 21st Century Toys Corsair.  Not a great kit, but a great value for $10.  Damn Walmart for screwing up that deal...Grrrr...

Maybe the Maori would form their own air force, have a mouth-and-outstretched-tongue roundel, with "tattooing" for camo!

Awesome.  I agree, Corsairs should look very rough.  Given the treatment they received in theater, they should always look beat up and dirty.  Great looking build, man!

Well, if I could get another one, I'd gladly do her up as a MiGCAP Corsair with the RCN.  She'd look great in Oak Leaves!

I'm not 100% happy with the weathering, especially the heavy stains on the underside.

Lesson learned:  Don't use a Future and ink wash to weather.  It never works out well.
