The Blue Peter GB (possible HOG memorial GB?)

Okay, I wasn't going to post any GB ideas because a) you've got plenty already and b) I havn't contributed anything to one yet. However, I'm putting this one up because it's inspired by a number of things going on in current GBs, notably the Styrene Junkyard and the Flying Sorcery ones.

The idea is to make a model using ONLY "found" objects that arn't either kit parts or "raw" material, in the spirit of Blue Peter's famous projects.

Suggested rules:

1. Subject and scale can be anything, vehicle, building, spaceship, as long as the end result is a scale(ish) model of something.

2. NO major structural components must come from a plastic construction kit. The spirit of the exercise is to use "found" objects that can be recycled.

3. NO major structural components must come from "raw material" like Plastruct, plasticard etc.... Raw material not intended for modelling (plastic plumbing pipe for instance) is a sticky point: probably best left to moderator's rulings on a case-by-case basis.

4. The model CAN be detailed using minor components from model kits or raw material where there's no reasonable alternative, i.e. canopies, wheels, propellors etc... Again, up to the moderator what's okay or not.

Perhaps this should go on as a case-by-case basis. I'd be in in a heartbeat!

I originally suggested this idea after seeing HOG's excellent entry for the Flying Sorcery GB, made from old inhalers. Since there is now talk of a memorial GB, I thought I'd ping the thread back up to the top as a focus for discussion.

(For the confused, Blue Peter is a long-running UK children's TV programme which routinely features models and projects made from household junk like toilet roll tubes and conditioner bottles)

Good idea, if a little strict with the rules - for example I have a spare 1/32 Hunter fuselage that is planned to one day be twinned with a printer cartridge to make a battlecruiser of the Imperial Roman Astral Corps...

The other idea is a diorama GB - we've not had one here before I believe.

To add to Jaybee's comments. If this is going to be a Blue Peter GB then the mandatory 'two washing up liquid bottles and sticky backed plastic' MUST be included.

Well the idea is to encourage things along the lines of HOG's inhaler creations: once you allow major kit parts, it becomes more like a re-run of the Styrene Junkyard GB.

First time I saw one of HOGs inhaler jobs, it got me looking at an old, broken trackball controller and thinking "yep: that's a hover-APC if I ever saw one!"

Bit of inspiration here folks. I know I mentioned some of these a while back, but a) I've got some more and b) this seems like a good time to remind people of them.

The stationery company Mapad make a range of cheap desktop thingies in funky shapes that are just BEGGING to be whiffed, in fact you can't help but wonder if their designer is a frustrated Manga artist. These are all in the 80p to £1.50 range and all come in various colours (but not with clear plastic, unfortunately):

First up, some pencil sharpeners. The one on the right is as it comes, whilst the bits on the left show what it breaks down into:

Next, some rubbers (for Americans, that's "erasers", not what you were thinking

). The one on the left has it's clear cover closed, while the one in the middle shows it open. The thing on the right is neither Mapad nor a rubber: it's a travel toothbrush cover sold by Go Travel Aids in packs of three. Since I only tend to pack one toothbrush, two of them are now spare:

Back to Mapad, and the blue cockpit-pod-looking thangs are a new design of pencil sharpeners. They even have cockpit framing.... The big clear thing at the pack is a Sainsbury's own brand "Giant Pen Stationery Set". Why you'd want a giant plastic pen with two pencils and a very small ruler in it is a mystery to me, but I know a fuselage shape when I see it:

More Stuff! Hooray for Stuff!!

Gaviscon (indigestion tablets) are now coming in these funky little plastic thangs:

It's 55mm high, and the oval base is 48mm x 28mm. The base is a separate moulding, so it might be "persuaded" to come off. Plastic is pretty hard vinyl, i.e. "greasy" feel but doesn't bend easily.
