Some British ones I've done some profiles for:

616 Sqn RAF.  Formed as part of the RAuxAF with Gloster Gauntlets at RAF Doncaster, they quickly took Spitfires & moved to RAF Leconfield.  I got interested in them because they were based at Leconfield for a short time, the nearest RAF Station to me (at least were flying ops were concerned) & because I'd read Hugh Dundass' autobiography & he started his RAF career with them.  They were the first squadron to operate Gloster Meteors & disbanded in 1957.

804 NAS RN.  Formed in 1937 with Sea Gladiators, disbanded in 1961 with Scimitars.  I created this profile after a request from Evan for an 804 NAS aircraft.  I took it a little further as I thought the striking Squadron symbol of a Tiger with dagger in it's teeth would be a natural for Tiger Meet.

897 NAS RN.  It's hard to find much history on 897 NAS, but I like the Tern's head emblem that they used on the nose of their Sea Hawks.  For my profile I put it on the tail.

Of the five Marineflieger Geschwaders formed, only two still exist, MFG 3 & MFG 5.  MFG 5's status is a little shaky, with the Luftwaffe's NH90's taking on much of the role of the aging Sea Kings.  Only MFG's existance is pretty much guaranteed.

MFG 1.  Marineflieger Geschwader 1 formed in 1957 with Hawker Sea Hawks.  Disbanded with Tornadoes in 1993 after unification & the lack of threat from the Soviet Union.

MFG 2. Marineflieger Geschwader 2 formed in 1958 with Sea Hawks, disbanded in 2005 after the Luftwaffe took over all fast jet opeartions.  The pic shows several of the badges used for MFG 2, the top two are the main unit badges.  When MFG 1 disbanded, their badge didn't disappear, MFG2 received a new symbol with elements of both.

MFG 4. Marineflieger Geschwader 4 was short lived, formed in 1963 with H-34's & disbanded in 1968

Thanks for that Mossie, never realised MFG2 were also gone.....always liked their classic MFG colours.

It was a surprise to me too Nev.  I was looking up MFG1 as I always liked their badge, but I'd somehow missed MFG2's disbandment, a few years ago now.  I didn't realise that the Marineflieger no longer operates fast jets.  I thought I'd pop in MFG4 to be complete.

The Marineflieger might soon be down to a single unit as there are big signs that MFG5 will be disbanded soon.  MFG3 doesn't seem to be at threat though, it provides most of the helicopters for shipboard duties as well as SAR, so we'll continue to see the Marineflieger operating for some time at least.

QuoteI swear, if I ever wind up in the posession of an F-100, I am going to figure out how to navalize it and put it in VF-114 markings - it just BEGS to be done.

Well I didn't navalize it, but the 'Vark mkgs do play well:
