regarding the engine ! I would use a F404 or better a F414 from an F/A-18E/F ... a F100 or even F110 from a F-16 is much too bid in diameter !

NAH.....shoe horn a F-14D engine in it....give it some get up and go.

With them all being mothballed by summer....should be plenty of engines available!!! LOL
Thanks

Well, yeah, but a rather poor fit since they're 11 inches, at least, greater in diameter that the J79 and even more over the F404/F414.  besides, for use in any other aircraft, they need the stretch section removed from their afterburner module.

Radish

For those modelling in 1/48th, fitting a longer nose on the Italeri Mirage was proving difficult as I couldn't find thick enough tubing. A big Knitting Needle (courtesy of Hobbycraft) came to the rescue as it's actually plastic tubing (but glue it with super glue) that is easily sawn off. The sharp end makes a nice pointy end to the "Spectre" too......seriously long nosed job now!
