How would one replicate this? Obviously lots of weathering, but the colors forward of the star are also something I would like to do...Any ideas?

I would think quite a bit of masking, and a few different shades of metalizer (depending on what you're using). As for the 'rainbow' stuff, that's a tough one.  I know some craft stores sell some interesting metallic finish stuff.  There are some guys doing junkyard model cars with the rust stuff.  You may have to do some experimentation.

Phil "Bondo" Brandt did a really nice T-4 some time ago over on hyperscale:  http://hyperscale.com/features/2002/t4pb_1.htm.

I have enough problems getting a realistic natural metal finish without wondering how to weather it.

I've seen the 'rainbow' effect done on aircraft tailpipes & engines as well as exhausts on F1 cars & the like where the metal has been exposed to heat.  Usually, the effect is created by using inks (you can get them from art or craft stores) or clear paints.  There are other ways I think, but I can't remember them.

There's an F-100 on Hyperscale that has had the engine area treated in this way:

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.
