... came across this one whilst tidying out some old model boxes... i put this one together back in c.1976 when i was around 10 yrs old, for a competition 'Revell' were running at the time (i got a runner up prize of a 'dambuster Lancaster'  B)

... i should really get around to refurbishing it at some stage ...

From which models was it done?
I like it anyway

Saab Viggen wings, Gnat canopy, nose from an old pen top, radar bulge beneath from one of my sisters toy spoons, fuselage and tails from a Starfighter, gun pods from a Phantom, exhaust from a Mirage III, undercart i cant remember (it had been broken off years before) but i think also from a Viggen, id added a Hawk Gun back beneath its belly and a few rows of missiles sometime afterward too ...

hm iv only just realised..all the parts being Airfix in origin... lol

... i recall the winning model was a brilliant piece of work of a VG. design called the 'Wolf' (a sortv twin tailled AFVG./Tornado lookalike from a chap in Lancashire?)
2nd place went to an equally imaginative design for a 'wasp-like' design complete with black and yellow stripes !!! hmm, i wonder where their builders are now...

Hey, that's pretty sweet!

I always love seeing the "history pieces" of modelers; shows where we came from and how some of us have always been whiffers

Hey, I saw both the Wolf and the Wasp in a couple of old Scale Models magazines.  I really loved the Wasp made out of a Skycrane and F-111.  That one was just wild and probably got me started thinking about What If models.

10 ears and such an idea????!!!!
the greatest idea I had was to make a KATE from a KP Il-10 with a PZL P-37B engine cowl and self made decals from a leather paint brushed on water adhesive color paper for kids...dont ask...it was in poland and then to have a good brush was worth a dance! <_<
respect!

I have seen this one in the flesh so to speak, very Gerry Anderson.

I really love this one. Lots of spares plus "raw" material (pen, spoon, toys...)
That's the way I build models, too.
Glad to see I'm not the only one building nose cones from pens!!!

French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

Good grief!!! Those guns are identical to the suggestion I made in Ysi's F-16 thread!

Great minds I guess...   :P

Superb build BTW.  Amazing work for a 10-year old.  Please restore it to its glory!
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Plan A:-
Get the Mr Muscle out and give it a fresh paint job or

Plan B:-
Source the necessary bits and reproduce a fresh one as a comparison to see what differences 30 or so years of modelmaking can do.

Oh and when are you coming up this way???

hiya chaps, many thanks for your kind comments ... just given it a light overall sanding (revealing an interesting dark blue and green camouflage on the Viggen wings and silver on the starfighter bits, theres even remains of its Canadian markings, lol!)

hmm..now heres a dilemma... a repaint back to its original scheme or go for something different  1970's camouflage? 'Scottish Air Force'?  lol

cheers, Joe

others iv found whilst clearing out some old model boxes are some 'what-if' ones my father put together eg, a Lockspeiser LDA.1 lookalike from an Islander, looks kinda neat with a 6 blade prop, a flying land rover from an Airfix Bloodhound Land Rover and a Cessna O.2, overall silver with red trim and Canadian markings (i recall corgi did a toy of a similar design based on an actual prototype, using a 'normal' car and not a Landy of course) and my favourite an S.6B derived design with enclosed cockpit, smoothed off engine and flutes, a ski undercarriage and again RCAF. markings (this one dating from before i was born!)
Iv also come across a few 'what-if' colour schemed models in my dads collection too, eg, green and brown camouflaged RAF. Bristol Freighter and P.1127 (kinda suits them actually) as well as remains of a sortv Me.262 variant in japanese colours, balsa fuselage and Airfix wings (a 1960's idea of a Kikka or Ki.201 perhaps, lol?), ill set them aside and take some snaps for the album

cheers, Joe
