Tailless Delta Wings Anybody?

We've seen plenties of asthetically-pleasing tailless delta-winged aircraft...... F-106, Mirages, Draken, Viggen, Gripen, Rafale, Typhoon, and the list goes on......

Now...... how cool would it be to see tailless delta wings being adopted on aircraft designed with other wing platforms?  The MiG-21 Analog is one that actually flew.  I think one based on the MiG-21UPG Bison would look real nice......  There also had been proposals for both the F-15 and F-16......

Personally I'm thinking of one based on the F-100 Super Saber as a future 3D Studio Max project......

There have been quite a few done on here already. Off the top of my head I can think of:

F-5E with Dracken wings
F-100 with Viggen (?) wings
F-104 with Mirage wings

I'm sure there are lots more.

On my project list for Patchwork World are:

Avro Atom: Gnat fuselage with high-set MiG-21 wings (started)
Avro Archer: F-86D fuselage with mid-set Kfir wings (to do)

The F-16XL did fly, here is the Wikipedia entry.

Yeah, I was thinking about early proposals for the Desert Falcon and did neglect the F-16XL.

How about a scaled Draken wing affixed to a F-105?  I'm seriously working on that one using a 1/48 Draken and a 1/72 F-105F with the addition of the T-Stick II spine.

Don't forget the BIG deltas, B-58 Hustler, Vulcan and XB-70.  All excellent WHIFF fodder.

Hawker Hunter is another (P.1091) I have in mind......

Hey hey hey, speaking of big deltas, how about a C-135 or C-137 with the wing platform and engine arrangement of the Vulcan?  ;D

How about a delta-winged Jindivik light interceptor?

If you want a seriously expensive kitbash, how about Vulcan wings on a Nimrod fuselage?

Avro Arrow wings on an F-4?

Possibly, but they look better on an A-5A or a RA-5C.

I think you're right there Evan, while researching my Mach 3 Arrow I was really surprised to find out that the Vigilante was just as big.  And it lands on a carrier too   :o

Now there's a thought --- a navy Arrow ------ hmmm!
If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike

For a naval Arrow, you'd almost certainly want canards or other horizontal surfaces as pure deltas seem to have real problems coming aboard carriers, though tailed deltas do quite well.  From what I've heard/read, that's one reason Boeing's production JSF proposal had a significantly different planform from the X-32.
