We are having our yearly contest in the San Francisco Bay Area on 17Oct2009.

I forgot to mention the "Ken Durling Memorial award".
It is named for a member that has now gone to the Great Hobby shop in the Sky.  He was known for "quirky" models at our club.  He retired long before I joined up, but I am sure that he would have been a great "Whiffer" too.

The key term is QUIRKY.

Good shopping and not too far from Milpitas, San Jose, Oakland, or San Francisco.  It is in the greater San Francisco bay area, only an hour or so away from Napa Valley (given that you need to combine trips with the significant other).

I am trying to attract all the "whiffers" that exist within driving range.  As an added bonus, you might even get a live sighting of Leigh.

Did I mention that they are not ignorant of the concept of "whiff" (one prize going to the quirkiest model, quirky=whiff), some of the ideas on this site make more sense than those found on the actual IPMS site (and so the club members are warm to those ideas) mainly because whiffing involves thinking.  Honestly that IPMS USA forum sometimes takes on an ALICE IN THE WONDERLAND quality.
