The current issue of Aeroplane Monthly (October 2009) has an in depth article on the Saab J-29 Tunnan.
It mentions that Saab proposed a two seat trainer version (SK-29), with both side by side two-seater, and tandem two-seater, being put forward.
Apparently the Swedish Air Board liked the idea and preffered the side by side arrangement, and so a full size wooden mock-up of this forward fuselage was made.
The idea came to nothing as Saab could not divert resources from the production of the single seaters, and the Swedish Air Force could not handle the conversion work "in-house".
Does anyone know of any photos of the mock-up, or of any drawings of, preferably both, proposals?

Interesting! You could perhaps do something with a Hunter T.7 conversion?
Some of my models can be found on my Flickr album >>>HERE<<<

IIRC Wings of Fame did an artwork of it.

Thanks Geoff,
I have had a look but the only reference to the J-29 in WoF that I can find is in Vol.6 in the article on the J-21. Can't find anything more J-29 specific.
If you can remember more I would be most gratefull.

Umm the Swedish AF SIG newsletter had an article a long time ago and I was given a vacform canopy for one - I'll see if I can find the article. Might take a bit of time.

From what I remember the fuselage length was not changed, nor the width. The two pilots sat side by side under a canopy that is reminsient of a  2 seater Venom.

Why don't you ask that oracle of wisdom or useless information depending on your perspective TSR Joe. sure he will have some info on it. Then again he ay have to don his Indiana Jones outfit to find it!! LOL
You gonna make Glasgow show?

I have found the article it wqs in the Swedish AF SIG newsletter of Sept '04. It shows how to convert a Heller Tunnan to the 2 seater with diagrams.
I cannot scan and email I'm afraid, but if you want a copy PM me your address and I'll get you a photostat of it?

JayBee

I have now received the said article from Geoff
I will scan it and if anyone wants a copy, PM me with your e-mail address, or you will find my e-mail address in the members section of the forum.
It will not cost me anything to send it, unlike Geoff who had to get it photo-copied and then pay the Post Orifice for large First class postage.
Geoff you are a Hero.
If you are at SMW, I am buying :drink:

Jennings

So would that make it a Twonnan?  :)

A two seat Tunnan? The mind boggles........

I should think you could have either fore and aft, side by side or even put one pilot on TOP of the other, the aircraft is so fat! :)

And I love the 'Twonnan' Jennings, you'll be doing a decal scheme for one no doubt???
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)
