random idea: the "Navalise it" GB

How about a P-47N navalized and retuned for low altitude ground attack.   Korea?  Vietnam?

How about a T-45E, a Hawk 100 with T-45 style naval mods & a Hawk 200 radar nose?  A T-45D is underway, a T-45C with synthetic apeture radar to provide closer training capability to the Super Bug.  There are talks for the USN to purchase more Hawks, I assume these would be to the latest 100 series specs with the radar included?

I know what I have in mind for this GB when she kicks off, I've got a Viper that's been sitting in my stash, and I did plan to put her in Alt Sundowner markings, so the thought of fitting her with hook and cat bar wouldn't be too much more over the mods I have in mind for it.

Well, I've got a T-45 kit as well as the Neomega hawk 200 conversion; seems like a FT-45 (or AT-45) may be in the future.

Please do it; I've proposed the USN filling out the big decks with fully-capable Goshawks, but haven't found the right models.

We've only got a few days until the proposed Nov. 1st start for this GB. To get it off the ground, we need rules and a moderator otherwise this one may fall by the wayside.

Ok we've got a moderator (thanks, ysi_maniac !) and some proposed rules:

1. GB runs from November 1 2009 to February 1, 2010
2. Entries will be What-if based in a broad concept of navalization of something that was not intended to be navalized:
       Land based planes converted to carrier based version
       Land based planes converted to float planes
       Amphibian versons of land vehicles
       of course, the original land based thing can be a whif too
3. Eligible entries must be a What-If, not posted on other GB, and posted to the Completed Entries thread by the deadline.
4. Winners will be determined by votes from forum members. Prizes will be awarded.
5. All decisions of the GB Moderator(s) are final.
6. There is no Rule #6.
7. Have Fun!

Unfortunately, any discussion on the rules will be a bit limited as this GB starts in three days! Yikes!

title says it all, just something i was thinking of yesterday evening 
the plan is to build a carrier version of a usually land based aircraft/helicopter.

some exsamples could be Navalised Typhoons, gripens, P-51's, F-104's,.....

How about a ZELL F-104 on an elevating launch rail bolted to the deck of a merchant ship, as a sort of jet-age equivalent of the CAMS Hurricanes?

A few years ago I turned an Arado 196 into a carrier based torpedo bomber. I patterned the U/C on the Bf109 and I turned the Heinkel 70 into an Italian float plane using the floats from the Arado.

The budget doesn't allow but Roden's new Siemens-Shuckert D.III begs for a set of floats with a dark blue fuselage/water lozenge.

U.S Navy carrier-based variant of the CF-105 Arrow as a RA-5 Vigilante replacement (although could or should it really have been replaced??)

I like the idea put forward for a 'multi-role' carrier-based variant of the Saab Viggen - what with folding wings and its STOL performance!!

An emergency adaption of a carrier-based variant of its IA-58 Pucara for the Argentinian Navy after the Falklands War, with folding wings, single main landing gear, and armed with torpedoes or an Exocet ASM after.

A carrier variant of the Joint Italian/Brazilian AMX for the Brazilian Navy to replace its A-4 Skyhawks.
With folding-wings, higher pressure tyres, arrester hook and radar equipped to fire Exocet ASM's

A PLANAF (People's Liberation Army Navy Air Force) adaption of the Xian JH-7A (Flying Leopard) for use as a strike/recon/EW aircraft for its rebuilt and revamped 'Varyag' ('Shi Lang') aircraft carrier. With folding-wings, folding tail fin, longer nose gear oleo, arrester hook.

In both two-seat and single-seat variants
The long cranked-arrow delta folding-wings of this design would be interesting!
A strengthend twin wheel nose landing gear with longer oleo

The F/A-16XL design wins over the design proposal for the development of the more expensive F/A-18E/F.
It wins the USN's RFP due to its cheaper price and longer range capability!
