HOG Memorial GB in-progress and discussion thread

I'm going to do my best to use as much stuff out of the unused parts sprues and whatever else I can find.

I've got an idea for a rather big 1/72 diorama, but I just don't know whether I will find the time.

Setting will be WWI-ish, with a trench defining the dio's back. A German Harrier GR. 1 (inspired by one of Mav's brilliant profiles! ) is sitting at a FARP. Nearby is an artillery emplacement with a 21cm Mörser 18. A road in the middle, separating FARP and artillery emplacement, leads to the front and will be populated with German infantry and cavalry (horses, not tanks!  ). Thought about arming some of the figures with German WWII weapons from a Dragon 1/72 set.

Maybe I'll add an AA emplacement with a Flak 38 as well. To guard the artillery and FARP against marauding Royal Air Corps machines.

Mav's profile of the Harrier is Lozenge overall. That'll be way too complicated. The timeframe is too limited. And so are my skill and, most of all, patience.   Maybe I'll "paint" the wings and control surfaces with Lozenge decals and the fuselage in rather gaudy colours (no Red Baron, though  ).
The artillery piece will be mostly unmodified, save for the wheels with "snow shoes"  (to keep them from sinking into the mud) that you see in so many photographs. The artillery will be painted in the multi-colour camo jobs of German WWI artillery pieces in a grey-ish green, tan and brown separated by black lines. Maybe the figures need some camo'ed gear as well.

Probably too ambitious for a GB of two months. Especially when considering my usual building speed.

I have a dead trackball unit which positively wants to be a sci-fi shuttlecraft with beetle-wing doors. However it also begs for a clear dome in place of the trackball and I havn't found one yet (might have to buy one from EMA if push comes to shove). Unlikely to start it before the end of October though, as I have something else on the go for an earlier deadline.

Sounds good, can you use one of those bubble containers you find in the gumball machines instead of a dome?

I plan to cross-breed a ribbon printer cartridge with the rear half of a 1/32 Hawker Hunter to make a battlecruiser of the Praetorian Astral Corps, XXIII century.

Gumball machines arn't that common over here, although I'm keeping an eye on anything of that ilk. I suspect they might be too big though. It's a mouse-sized trackball unit so the dome would have to be about 20mm (measurement at home). There are other options: it just seems a shame to waste a round hole in a cockpitty position....

I'm planning to re-visit a build I did started some years back for the Secret Santa GB.  It's pretty much along the Luft 46 lines that Gary loved & he commented on it.  I had a diorama planned but I let the Kettenkrad kit go that I was planning to use (not how you'd expect), ironically to Gary!

I'm really not sure how to carry on with it as the canopy got damaged.  I might be able to use the remains but I might have lost them...

I've been feeling a little under the weather, so what's a better cure than some time at the bench? I built a little display only project today which is ready for paint. I'll try to get some pics and then start the Completed Entries Pic thread soon.

Can this sub-forum be moved so that it shows up in the GB section on the main page, as the GBs usually do? This has obviously been here a while, but I've only just stumbled across it. Front page would be much more visible.
