Last Hampden idea:

Since one of it's alleged problems was the inability to swop places, how about up-engining one with two Hercules and then widening the fuselage to match new cockpit and nose glazings taken from something else (Halifax?).

As to Hampden variations:
L4032 was re-engined with Wright Cyclones and X3115 was completed with Cyclones as the prototype for the H.P. 62 Hampden II.

In November 1938 H-P put forth proposals for a variant with a wider fuselage and equipped with either Merlin XX or Hercules engines.

Halibag variations.

HP 56, Vulture engined twin ala Avro Manchester.

HP 65, high aspect ratio wings with NACA 66 laminar airfoil and turbo-supercharged Hercules 38.

Doable from various Halibag kits, mebbe use the wings off of a B-24 as a starting point for the HP 65.
