Luis Almeida,

QuoteYes i am

Makes sense.  Plus your name sounds like it's either Spanish or Portuguese in origin.

That being said, I'd like to remind everybody in a manner reminiscent of the SNL bit on Julian Assange, that no matter how I die: It was murder (even if there was a suicide note or a video of me peacefully dying in my sleep); should I be framed for a criminal offense or disappear, you know to blame.

Weaver,

QuoteDe Havilland's Goblin was available at the same time as the early Meteor

Yeah, it was undergoing testing at the time, but was it sufficiently ready for actual use at that point in time?

The DH Vampire fist flew in 1943.  The Lippisch P.15 also had a similar arrangement, although would probably have flown a little later, 1945/'46.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I'm surprised I forgot about that design.  Regardless, did the United States have the knowledge and capability of using those types of intakes as well?

I like the way that the UK has set up the 3 armed forces but the politically inspired infighting does p1ss me off but thats govts for you keep the forces permantly under review, overstretched and under resourced and they will turn on each other.
However there are trends I would stamp on in the RAF and thats it empire building mentality they have taken over bits of UK defence forces not fully relevant to them and changed them to RAF clones then moved on to give the RAF a bigger footprint and their over administration. The other bits are the ability to spin things and rewrite history to make their role seam bigger. Added to their misplaced idea that war can be won from the air!

Yeah, inter-service rivalry is quite common in the United States too

I did not know the RAF did that.

It's very hard to win a war solely from the air.  You need the ability to fight on land and air at minimum, and sea, land, and air more practically.

lets see, i had this idea for a Flemish Armed Forces, witch would be equiped as followed.
but i plan to replace the 6 bulldog T.1's with new elementary trainers by 2016, possibly Lasta95's or Diamond DA40's
on the bench:

-all kinds of things.

Apophenia,

QuoteKendra: the Lockheed XJ-37 was a "high-compression-ratio, twin-spool, axial-flow turbojet" from the outset. The centrifugal flow design notion may have sprung from a 150hp steam turboprop Nathan Price had designed for the Besler Steam Plane in 1933. That Doble Steam engine had a  centrifugal compressor.

Before I start, I want to thank you for your reply.

I guess the centrifugal-flow engine I was thinking about were based on Nathan Price's designs, which apparently morphed from steam-turbine to gas-turbine, and eventually evolved into the XJ-37.

QuoteBTW, does anyone know for sure when Lockheed got the development contract for the L-1000? (I've seen online refs to 1941, 1942, and 1943!)

I think I know the answer to that, I think it was 1941...

I think it was probably 1942 by the time the XJ-37 design-concept materialized...

Sorry for any confusion
