I was really hoping that I would like this diecast model and it might persuade kitbuilding
TSR 2 fans to consider a made-up version

I saw the Corgi TSR 2 for the first time yesterday and was very disappointed.

Some specifics:

The box is a waste of space. It is far too large for what is quite a narrow, if longish model. But
worst of all there is no quality artwork, just a poor photo of the model itself.

The model is a lot of metal and well cast, but where are the fun details we have come to expect
on 1/72 models from other manufacturers.  There is no provision for open cockpits.  No detailed
paint and panel mark shading.  TSR 2 is one of the most photoed subjects there is.

Corgi have obviously had to keep the costs down to get a retail price of 80 Pounds or so. I think in
this they have fallen into the old toy versus model trap.  This is an iconic plane and there is so far no
other diecast model in this scale.

I may be being grouchy but compared with some of the Hobbymaster and Geminijets offerings and
even Corgi's own Lightning models this is a lemon.

Can't say I agree... I think it's a superb model. There are a slew of very minor faults and inaccuracies, but none of them detract from the overall effect, which is that it perfectly captures the character and shape of the real thing. It's very much in Corgi house style, i.e. clean paintwork with no weathering etc. and the rotating main gear bogies are a very nice touch. The stand is awful though. If you want a diecast 1/72 TSR2, here it is - and it looks a lot better than many of the built-up Airfix 1/72 kits I've seen!

#2
picked up 2 on preorder from the local hobby store, D&F Models, Glasgow (they stil have one on the shelf at £70 for anyone interested!)
ill agree with Damien re the model, looks good in shape, accurate, clean, details a bit soft and slightly heavy, altho i do love the rotating bogies and free spinning wheels (great for running the model across the kitchen table!) the pilots also appear to be in the correct colours too!

cheers, Joe

Since I wrote this comment I have seen the Corgi model out of the box (which I still hate)
and agree with your points about the model and it is quite a value for money model.

I think my gripe is that Hobbymasters and other Far Eastern firms have made such strides.
There is a new 1:72 model of the Canadian Arrow coming out in March which shows this.
I have seen a sample and will try and find more details.
