How big is that gun ?  :banghead:

In scale?  Probably about 24".  I figure it's either a mortar or a short barreled howitzer.  Either way, I seems like one of those short ranged "breakout" weapons everyone loved for a while.

Right, understand
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

No major update, just got her into her party dress.  So...look at the last photo and imagine all the white is now red.  ;)

#19
The thin almost non-existant air whipped across the miles of glacier.  The sound of the howling wind raged across the desolate plain until another sound began to intrude.  Harsh mechanical grinding began to displace the nature's wail, and soon it overwhelmed it entirely.  Scooting slowly across the dense miles thick sheet of ice, came the intruder.  Bright red and ironically more visible because of it on the one place that red planet gave way to uinreleaved white, the massive machine ground it's way interminably forward.

On the bridge of the USLB Miantonomoh, Captain Ulysses Greene squinted his eyes against the blinding reflected glare.  Not even the smoked lens perched on his face offered full relief form the reflected light.  If he were down in the bridge, he'd be able to see clearly through the repeater screens that hung like painting on the walls of the armored citadel.  But Greene was from a simpler time, and the old axiom still held true; you can't truly drive a tank from the inside.

Next to him, his adjutant stood holding the nigh useless binoculars.

"Beautiful day Captain."

Greene grunted in reply. "It had better be mister Kincaid.  Today we make history."

Both men turned back silently to the vast expanse of ice, wondering when they would cross the pole.

Man to explore Mars!!!

By Vingo Slattery
Published: September 21, 1948

With the opening of the Aetherverse, man has learned how to sail far beyond the petty limits of our own world.  Today NACA announced that it would begin plans for a full-fledged exploration of our nearest neighbor, Mars, with the intent to colonize in the future.  NACA has had to step up the Mars program, in light of announcements made by the United Kingdom, and Germany towards similar ends.  If all goes well in this first landing, future missions will seek to explore and possibly change the very nature of Mars itself.  Vice President McArthur was at the inital announcement and stated "We will make Mars the 51st state of the union!"  While such grandiose pronouncements have not gone over well worldwide, the fervor of the missions cannot be doubted.

Miantonomah to explore Martian Poles!!!

By Vingo Slattery
Published: November 11, 1951

Today the Land Battleship Miantonomoh cleared the final hurdle after her year long conversion and transport to warlike Mars.  All will remembner that when man set foot on Mars three years ago, we had to radically alter our views on our nearest neighbor in space.  Ravaged for generations by unseen wars, the seemingly dead planet still held those intent on destroying all but themselves in their xenophobic fury.  The dreaded Tripods almost annihilated the first exploration with their heat rays, and only fire from the orbitting Aethership Roosevelt had been able to bring them to heel.  In light of this, the first colonies were of course, heavily armed.  But our meeting with the other races of Mars; namely the Red and Green Martians, and the treaties forged between them and American hero Colonel John Carter, allowed the United States and other countries to begin peaceful settling.

But regions of Mars have been a mystery, even to the original residents of the planet.  Tales of God-like beings, and hidden tribes of Mars have kept all but the foolhardy away from the poles.  And even if one did discount the rumors, the harsh weather makes them all but uninhabitable even for a short while.

Now the Miantonomoh has finished her disarmament, reduced to merely her seige gun and some few cannons and machine guns for self-defense, and is ready to find the North and later South poles and lay to rest the tales once and for all.

And pictures of course.

Wow - looking GOOD!

That is a seriously bright red. Might be too late now, but how about relieving it a bit by painting the deck areas on the various platforms dark grey?

I thought about it, but the idea for the day-glo red is that you'll be able to see it for miles if they need to do a recovery.  ;)

I like this.

May I suggest a wash, to make the details pop? Nothing too heavy, just to give the corners and crevices a little bit of depth.

Way, way cool! Both model and background story. Fits in nicely with the USAS Edison.

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?
